sunburst
by Alessandra Katherine

our melancholy moon
our sounding board sea
our hush of darkness

every beaming moment of it
palms empty, bristling, among the whistling trees
leather boots scuffing out answers to unasked questions

every synonym for yearning strung
unknowable pressure
bright, warm, electric
some mockery of bitter gratitude

the kind of drive where the silence is too loud for
how full my head
your eyes
the sky, pink, melting, consumption

and we walked
and the trees held us
and all that just for the chance

straight into the sun
