Trick lesson
by Joshua Vigil

i watch you
curled at the end of my bed
naked and eating a fried fish
it occurs to me:
a pearl doesn’t glisten
just to charm
the other pearls
you drive me mad, actually
i bite a hole
in my flesh
and consider more
wholesome loves:
a waldorf salad
angel food cake
ambrosia
